The Guru’s Guide to Better 1911 Triggers

Mike Whitlock brings 40 years of firearms experience to the Guru’s Classroom.

BASED ON HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF “PERSONAL BENCH-TIME” & HAVING LONG, DETAILED DISCUSSIONS WITH 2 FAMOUS TEXAS “1911 PISTOLSMITH’S”:  TEDDY JACOBSON @ “ACTIONS BY-T”, SUGARLAND, TX.  (MEDICALLY RETIRED NOW) & ALEX HAMILTON @ “TEN-RING PRECISION”, SAN ANTONIO, TX. (ACTIVELY WORKING) AND SOME INTENSIVE “POST-GRADUATE STUDY” WITH MR. KEN HALLOCK’S & JERRY KHUNHAUSEN’S VOL. 1 & 2 , I DECIDED IN 2014, TO WRITE A VERY SIMPLE SET OF DIAGRAMS / ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE SLIDE & FRAME INTERNALS MOST OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH “TRIGGER POLISHING”—I PERSONALLY HATE THE WORDS “TRIGGER JOB” BECAUSE IT REALLY DOES NOT EXPLAINS WHAT WAS EVEN DONE !!!!

SIMPLY INSTALLING A NEW SET OF “SILICON-CARBIDE” SPRINGS, DOES NOT, IN MY OPINION, COUNT FOR “SQUAT” AND THEN CALLING THAT “A TRIGGER JOB”—OH HELL NO! IF THE PARTS ARE NOT INTENSELY “HAND-POLISHED” TO A SUPER-BRIGHT “MIRROR FINISH” IN CERTAIN AREAS OF THE PARTS “ANATOMY” & THEN PROPERLY LUBED BEFORE INSTALLATION BACK INTO THE FRAME / SLIDE, THEN DON’T REFER TO IT AS A “TRIGGER JOB”! THE BETTER DESCRIPTION WOULD BE “A PRECISION HAND-POLISHING OF THE PISTOL’S INTERNAL ACTION” OR A “FULL ACTION POLISH”…..JUST MY OPINION!
